Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting

Emergency lights and illuminated signs play an integral part in fire safety evacuation. They are there to ensure you can escape safely in a fire situation. In the event of a fire or power outage the emergency lighting system will activate on its own self-contained battery system, and this system will illuminate the escape route for a minimum of three hours as required by BS 5266 Part 1.

Failure to comply with annual testing of emergency lighting could breach insurance policies and fire safety regulations – and potentially lead to prosecutions.

Legislation

Legislation requires that the Responsible Person ensures emergency routes and exits requiring illumination are provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure of their normal lighting.

There are two types of emergency light systems that installed in premises:

NM/3 Non-Maintained – An emergency light will only illuminate on a loss of power to the circuit with a minimum duration of 3 hours.

M/3 Maintained – A dual use system illuminated at all times in public buildings. Guaranteed illumination on loss of power to the circuit with a minimum duration of 3 hours.

Emergency Light Services

We offer complete design, installation, certification & commissioning of all emergency lighting systems. Our work is carried out to the highest standard – ensuring compliance with BS 5266 Part 1. PDP offer comprehensive packages that are tailored for your property, including monthly tests and annual inspections to comply with BS 5266 Part 8.

Annual emergency light testing is required by law. Ensuring a building is compliant with current regulations is a specialist service that PDP is able to carry out on your behalf. During an emergency lighting test PDP will:

  • Carry out a test for the full rated duration of the emergency lights.
  • Log the performance of the system.
  • Carry out any repairs or replacements following on from the test recommendations (subject to estimates being approved).
  • Issue full test certification.
